PASS PLUS – Improving your basic driving skills | ||

It really feels good when you pass your driving test, but there is a lot more to learn. It is a sad fact that newly qualified drivers stand a greater risk of being involved in an accident than experienced motorists. Recent statistics show that new drivers account for 10% of all drivers, yet they are involved in 29% of all accidents. You are more likely to be involved in an accident in the first two years of driving than at any other time. Once you have passed your test you are “on probation” for two years. If you accrue six penalty points or more during this time you WILL LOSE YOUR LICENCE and have to retake both the theory and practical test again. Since this rule was introduced in 1997, over 40,000 new drivers have lost their licence! PASS PLUS is a scheme designed to help develop the attitudes and skills essential for safe driving. It has been developed by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), the motor insurance industry and the driving instruction industry to develop knowledge and skills in areas where new drivers may have limited experience. The benefits of PASS PLUS include enabling you to gain quality driving experience safely, helping you develop existing skills, teaching you to develop a positive driving style, reducing the risk of you being involved in an accident, and the possibility of substantial discounts on motor insurance premiums. The course consists of six modules and takes a minimum of six hours tuition. The six modules are: 1. Town Driving 2. All Weather Driving 3. Out of Town & Rural Driving 4. Night Driving 5. Dual Carriageways 6. Motorway Driving THERE IS NO TEST AT THE END You will be assessed throughout the course: once you have completed all modules successfully a training record is signed by both student and instructor and then sent to the Driving Standards Agency who will issue a Certificate of Completion showing that you have successfully completed the course and are eligible for insurance discounts with participating companies.
